This building, the site of the former Western Carolina Properties, was being demolished Monday in preparation for a new bridge across Scotts Creek in Dillsboro.
Project B-5905 will bring the new bridge over Scotts Creek on U.S. 23 Business, between Dillsboro and Sylva. The current bridge is almost 80 years old and in need of replacement.
In the first phase, a stretch of Old Home Town Road from Business 23 to the Monteith Park entrance will be closed for four to six months while it is widened and a sidewalk is installed, DOT Bridge Program Manager for Highway Division 14 Adam Dockery told the Dillsboro town board last month.
A contractor will be on board in February for the work, with a possible start in May.
