helicopter crash airport

Pilot Dwight Burnette of Knoxville, Tennessee, speaks into a phone as he arranges a truck to transport his damaged helicopter on the Jackson County Airport runway. Burnette, flying from Cherokee with two trainees aboard, crashed into the tarmac at 10:54 a.m. Monday due to low rotor RPM causing the helicopter to lose altitude quickly, he said. No major injuries were reported, save a minor scrape on Burnette’s chin. The Cullowhee Fire Department and Jackson County Rescue Squad reported to the scene. The crash was so quick that “you don’t have time to be scared,” Burnette said, “Or have time to think about the what-ifs.”
