Hatton sworn in

Sylva Mayor Lynda Sossamon (right) swears in Chris Hatton as the new chief of police on Thursday, ---Oct. 10 on the Courthouse steps. His wife, Glennis, presented him the pin. Hatton started work Aug. 12 after being selected by a panel of Western North Carolina law enforcement and town officials. Hatton has 21 years of law enforcement experience under his belt, a degree in criminal justice from Lees-McRae College and accolades such as being named Police Officer of the Year by the Boone Police Department. He succeeds former Chief Tammy Hooper, who retired Aug. 1.
