Truck driver Anthony Pierce, of New Jersey, tries to get cell phone reception on Rock Quarry Road after he wrecked his truck last Thursday afternoon. Pierce said he rusted his GPS to take him to a housing development in Cullowhee with a load of plywood. It took him down Mockingbird Lane to a left turn onto Rock Quarry Road. About 100 yards later, the road makes a hard right turn just past Savannah Creek that his 18-wheeler could not navigate. The rear wheels slid into the creek. “When I came down, I came around the curve and it was too late,” he said. “I couldn’t back up because I wasn’t straight enough. I almost made it. But as you can see, it didn’t happen.” Pierce was charged with failure to maintain lane control.
