Notes from our business community
- and everywhere else

AFTER-CHRISTMAS sales abound in Sylva this week. Check the ads in this issue for more information on where to shop for bargains.

WE RECEIVED the following note from Sgt. 1st Class Judy Whitley with the 210th in Iraq:

"The members of the 210th Military Police Co. from Sylva, Franklin and Murphy wish to express our sincere thanks to the many citizens, businesses, churches and other organizations that took the time away from their daily lives to remember us during the holiday season.

"As you know, it is difficult for us to be away from those we love. But this is especially true during the Christmas holiday. You have shown us that you have not forgotten us during this most trying time.

"For that we'll always be in your debt. Thanks again for everything.

"'Freedom is not free'" is the motto of our company.

"Yours in service, 210th MP Co."

AS A HOLIDAY GIFT TO OUR readers, this week's special section includes the first-, second-, and third-place winners in City Lights' recent writing contest, which encouraged area residents to collect family stories and write them down. While only one is about Christmas, most are set in this area and have regional and family themes. We hope you and your family will enjoy sharing these stories and telling your own during the holiday season.
