KEVIN STEVENS, formerly of Cullowhee, has joined one of Nashville's oldest law firms, Manier and Herod. Stevens, who joined Manier & Herod in August, focuses his practice in the areas of civil litigation, fidelity and surety law. Stevens is an alumnus of Wake Forest University, where he graduated cum laude with a B. A. in psychology. In earning his law degree, he graduated cum laude from the University of Tennessee College of Law. While in law school, Stevens served as an editor of the Tennessee Law Review, a student attorney representing clients pro bono in the UT Legal Clinic and was named to the Phi Kappa Phi National Honor Society. He is a member of the American, Tennessee and Nashville Bar Associations. Stevens resides in Nashville, Tenn., with his wife, Melissa. Founded in 1914, Manier & Herod has over 30 attorneys and offers a full range of legal services, including general civil practice, corporate, insurance, fidelity and surety, tax and estate and workers' compensation defense. WESTERN CAROLINA WRESTLING Federation will hold a show for REACH of Jackson County and Toys For Tots Saturday, Dec. 20 at 8 p.m. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. Admission will be a new, unwrapped toy valued at $8 or more. Tickets at the door will be $8 for adults and $4 for children age 6-12. Children age 5 and under will be admitted for free. Those attending may also gain admission by bringing food items or a warm blanket valued at $8 or more. The event will be at the old Whittier School. For more information, call 497-3042. RAMADA HOTEL in Cherokee recently won the 2003 Ramada Pinnacle award at the hotel chain's international convention in Hollywood, Fla. The hotel was the only Ramada in North Carolina to be awarded this honor. To earn the award, a Ramada hotel must achieve high levels of excellence in every facet of hotel operations, including amenities, sales, marketing, design, cleanliness, staff appearance and customer service. The Cherokee hotel is owned by Harold and Priscilla Cooper and family. Manager is Jerry Hyatt. The 90-room Cherokee Ramada is located on U.S. Highway 19, across from the casino parking lot. JACKSON COUNTY local government offices will be closed Thursday, December 18, from 11:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. for the county's annual employees service award holiday luncheon. This will include the Jackson County construction and demolition landfill. THE DRAWING for the cat quilt and other prizes was made at Lighten Up in Dillsboro Saturday. Winners were: Will Kuhns of Cullowhee, CD of cat hymns; Nancy Friedrich of Sylva, cat doorstop; and Amy Leggett of Tiger, Ga., metal cat candle-holder. The king-size cat quilt was won by Lorene Feagley of St. Petersburg, Fla. Catman says thanks to all the people who bought tickets to support his new shelter and adoption center. All funds will help feed some 50 cats that are living in the shelter and the ones that are sure to come in the future. The shelter is open on a limited basis now, and Catman will be happy to show people around by appointment. There are many cats in need of homes. Call Harold Sims at 293-0892. SOUL INFUSION Tea House and Bistro will host Dana Robinson Friday, Dec. 19, from 9 p.m. until midnight. The performance is free and open to all ages. For more information, call 586-1717.
