DON'T EVER DIAL ...

area code 809 in response to e-mails, phone calls or web pages. Doing so can cost you more than $24,000. Here's how it works: You receive a message on your answering machine or your pager, which asks you to call a number beginning with 809. The reason varies. It can be to receive information about a family member who has been ill, to tell you someone has been arrested or to let you know you have won a wonderful prize. If you return one of these calls, you will apparently be charged $2,425 per minute. When you get your telephone bill, you'll often be charged more than $24,100. So beware of calling numbers that begin with area code 809. - This information came from Sandi Van Handel, AT&T field services manager.
