DON'T MISS YOUR LAST CHANCE...to visit Dillsboro during the village's annual Luminaire and Open House. Town streets will be aglow both Friday and Saturday nights with candles, and businesses will offer refreshments to holiday shoppers. This annual winter festival is a perfect way to capture some holiday spirit - and accomplish some Christmas shopping.
ANDY SHAW FORD...is the new name of Sylva's Ford dealership, formerly known as Dunnahoe-Shaw Ford. Owner Andy Shaw announced the name change last week and introduced Larry Hinton as the company's new general manager. Though the name has changed, Shaw Ford will continue to offer area residents the best in both sales and service, Shaw said. For information, call 586-0900.
CITY LIGHTS...will host a holiday storytime for children and their parents Saturday, Dec. 15, at 11 a.m. Look for a visit from "Auntie Claus," who will read holiday favorites and offer treats and goodies.
BOBBY GUNTER...has announced that his company, Gunter Family Trash and Recycling, has merged with Country Collections, and that he and Bud Boynton are co-owners. Gunter will serve as managing partner. Anyone with questions or concerns regarding residential trash or recycling pickup in the town of Sylva may call 631-2721 or 631-3472.

HARRAH'S CHEROKEE CASINO...is currently planning or the installation of 12 "Digital 21" table games. These are video blackjack games that employ live dealers to facilitate wagers and payoffs with chips in a more traditional table game atmosphere. The new games are scheduled to be in operation in mid-February."We believe that Digital 21 represents an entertaining new game that combines player skill with customer interaction in an exciting venue not previously available at Harrah's Cherokee Casino," said Pat Dennehy, general manager. "If the games prove as popular as we expect, the opportunity exists for more of them being placed in our casino."

GETTING A NEW COMPUTER...or Christmas? You can donate your old one to Pathways for the Future, which accepts donations of computers and Windows software for the CyberPals program. ALMOND TWIRLERS...Square Dance Club will host a Christmas dinner and dance today (Thursday) at the old Whittier School. Dinner will be at 7 p.m., and the square dance will follow at 8 p.m. Caller will be Marty Northrup. For information, call 497-2490.
JACKSON-SWAIN...Medical Society Alliance will auction an artificial tree decorated with a "Christmas in the Mountains" theme to benefit the Good Samaritan Clinic in Sylva. The silent auction will be from Friday, Dec. 7, through Friday, Dec. 21.The Good Samaritan Clinic is a faith-based clinic that provides medical care for under-served people ages 18 to 64. The Good Samaritan clinic is located at the Jackson County Department of Public Health and is open every Tuesday from 5-9 p.m. The "Christmas in the Mountains" tree comes with all its ornaments and lights as well as the wicker basket in which it sits. Stop by the Harris Regional Hospital lobby and make your bid. If you don't plan to bid on the Christmas Tree, but would like to make a donation to support the Good Samaritan Clinic, you may leave your donation in the drop box at the front desk. Checks should be made out to the Jackson-Swain Medical Society Alliance. Your donations will help bring medical care to those who might otherwise be forced to do without.
