DOWNTOWN SYLVA MERCHANTS plan an open house this Saturday, Dec. 13. Many stores will be open late, and many merchants will offer holiday sale prices. See their ad on page 6A for more information.


SYLVA'S BOJANGLES' restaurant, located at 64 Wal-Mart Plaza, will open its doors today (Thursday). According to Marlene Moody, unit director, the store plans a variety of activities during the coming weeks, including special appearances by the Bojangles' Chicken, balloons for the kids, new vehicles from Andy Shaw Ford and other exiting events. Sylva's Bojangles' is the newest of more than 300 Bojangles' restaurants located in North Carolina, South Carolina, and across the Southeast. Bojangles' will be open Monday through Saturday, from 5 a.m. until 11 p.m. and Sundays from 6 a.m. until 10 p.m. Bojangles' serves a variety of made-from-scratch biscuits all day, every day. Bojangles' looks forward to being involved in the Sylva community for years to come, a company spokesman said.


YOUR HERBALIST plans a holiday open house next Wednesday, Dec. 17, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the store beside Harold's Supermarket. Stop by for free product samples, door prizes, refreshments and new product demonstrations. Owners David and Gail Cirka offer a variety of herbal formulas, aroma therapy, bulk herbs, beauty products and pet care products. For more information, call 586-0775.


AN ADDRESS listed in last week's story about Sol Schulman's new book incorrectly listed the Community Foundation's address. Donations to the Sol and Lillian Schulman Family Endowment for Downtown Sylva may be made to the Community Foundation at P.O. Box 2148, Sylva, N.C., 28779.


A NEW BUSINESS, The Treasure Hunt, sells used furniture, household items, antiques and more, and they also buy used items. Anyone who likes thrift stores should stop by The Treasure Hunt, located on Harold Street in the former Ashley Co. location.


CITY LIGHTS will host a special holiday storytime for children this Saturday, Dec. 13 at 11 a.m. Special guest will be the character Sophie from the book Auntie Claus. This free event is open to children of all ages. For more information, call City Lights at 586-9499.


LOCAL DEMOCRATS will meet for breakfast Saturday, Dec. 13, at the Holiday Inn Express in Dillsboro. See their ad for additional information.


EDWARD JONES will hold a holiday open house for clients and friends at David Preston's office, located across from Harold's Supermarket today (Thursday) from 4 to 7 p.m. Those attending are asked to bring a non-perishable food item that will be donated to a local non-profit organization.


HOMIER MOBILE Merchants will be in Sylva from noon until 7 p.m. offering a variety of power and air tools for sale.
