ROBBY BRYSON ...

has been elected a vice president of corporate financial services in Richmond, Va., with Wachovia Bank. Bryson, Virginia's regional customer service manager, joined Wachovia in 1978 and assumed his current position in 1999. A son of H.C. Bryson of Sylva, Bryson received his degree in business management from Mars Hill College.

BILL RHINEHART ...

of Sylva was recently named a "Shining Star" at Harrah's Cherokee Casino for providing great service and promoting teamwork. Rhinehart is a surveillance officer and has been with Harrah's Cherokee since 1998. Each month, employees at the casino nominate co-workers for the Shining Star Awards. Three winners receive $100, a gift basket, special parking privileges and more. Other Shining Stars for the month were Bill Lillard and Willard Lossie, both of Cherokee.

INDIGENOUS,

the first Native American group to have a Top 10 rock single, will perform at Harrah's Cherokee Casino for one show only at 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 17. The group headlines the casino's second annual Native American Music Festival. Indigenous is on a roll. The band played with Bonnie Raitt, Jackson Brown and the Indigo Girls in October, and the group's guitarist, Mato Nanji, was invited on stage to play with Santana. Tickets start at $10 and are on sale now. For information, call 1-800-HARRAHS.

SYLVA'S ANNUAL CHRISTMAS PARADE ...

is coming up Tuesday, Nov. 28, and there is still time for groups to sign up to participate. Call Betty Foxx at 586-2512 for information.

LES GENS BEAUX ...

in Dillsboro will spo-sor a food drive for United Christian Ministries during a "cut-a-thon" all day Saturday, Nov. 18. The shop will offer haircuts and manicures for $10 worth of non-perishable food items for holiday dinners. Those wishing to participate must make appointments by calling 586-9189.


HARRY'S BACK ...

at Tonemaster Muffler. After more than three years of retirement, he decided retirement wasn't for him. So even if you don't need muffler work, Harry says to stop by and see him.


ALMOND TWIRLERS ...

will hold a 7:30 p.m. Thanksgiving dinner/dance tonight (Thursday) at the old Whittier School. Marty Northrup will call, and Carol Pound will lead line dancing. The Almond Twirlers will join the "Circle Eights" in Asheville Thursday, Nov. 16. For information, call Harmer Weichel at 497-2490.

LOW INCOME ...

households have until Friday, Nov. 17, to apply for the Low Income Energy Assistance Program. The funds provide direct help to the poor and elderly on fixed incomes. Households that receive food stamp benefits may be automatically eligible to receive an energy check. Those households will receive a notice in the mail. Others are required to apply. Applications will be taken at the Jackson County Department of Social Services. For information, call Mary Ginn at the local DSS office at 586-5546, ext. 254.
