that Sunday's 3:30 p.m. Western Carolina Civic Orchestra concert will be in Bryson City at the new Swain County Center for the Arts next to Swain County High School. The orchestra regularly performs at Western Carolina University's Coulter Building Recital Hall, which is undergoing renovations at this time. The program will consist of music for a chamber orchestra, and area Suzuki violin students will perform.
A POWER OUTAGE...
is scheduled for today (Thursday) in the WCU area. Workers from the university's facilities management department and Duke Power Co. will be replacing three insulators at an electrical substation damaged during last week's heavy winds, and that work will require a temporary power outage. The power outage is scheduled to take place from 2 until 4 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 1, said Andy Comrie, director of WCU's facilities management department. All WCU campus buildings, the N.C. Center for the Advancement of Teaching, and customers served by the university's off-campus resale electrical system in the Long Branch, Forest Hills and Cullowhee Heights areas will be without power during that time.

of Village Studio in Dillsboro has been awarded a Thomas McKeon Scholarship by the Professional Picture Framers Association Board of Directors. The scholarship, given to only five people a year, provides financial assistance for them to take the association's Certified Picture Framer examination. "What we learn from this program really helps us provide more professional service to our customers in proper and innovative framing techniques," Smith said.
