Staff at Sylva Insurance Agency

CONGRATULATIONS ...

to the staff at Sylva Insurance Agency, which is celebrating 75 years-in business and 75 years of being associated with the Hartford Insurance Group. Jeff Stengel (left), Hartford's sales representative from the Charlotte regional office, presented an indoor weather station to the firm. From left are co-owners Phyllis Foxx and Jack Morris and employee Betty Foxx. John Morris Sr. founded the agency in 1925, and Phyllis Foxx went to work for him in 1960.
When Morris died in 1974, his son, Jack Morris, and Phyllis Foxx bought the business as co-owners. Betty Foxx started working there in 1976. During many of the years Phyllis Foxx worked for John Morris, he was the only justice of the peace in the county. "It was wonderful working for him just to know what went on," she said. "He was one of the finest people I ever knew." The agency is located on Main Street next to Meatballs.
