SUZANNE WINDSOR ...

has joined the staff of Sylva Clinical Associates. A graduate of James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Va., Windsor received her education specialist degree in school psychology this year. Her undergraduate degree is from the University of North Carolina at Asheville. She is recently married and lives with her husband, Scott, in Franklin, her hometown. At Sylva Clinical Windsor will work with school-age children and provide both in-school counseling and testing services as well as outpatient psychotherapy services.

THE ROYAL HANNEFORD CIRCUS,

the longest-running circus act in the world, will return to Western Carolina University's Ramsey Center Wednesday, Oct. 18, at 7 p.m. Tickets will go on sale the day of the show and will cost $12 for adults and $5 for all others. Children 12 and younger will be admitted free when accompanied by an adult, with a limit of two free kids per paying adult. Discount coupons will be available. The Hanneford circus originated in the late 1600s when Edwin Hanneford juggled for King George III. Originally performing in England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales, the circus moved to the United States in 1916. The circus is currently led by Tommy Hanneford. This year's show will be hosted by ringmaster Billy Martin and will feature a wide variety of circus acts and stars, including trapeze artists, acrobats, gymnasts, circus pets, contortionists, clowns a human cannonball, the famous Mark Karoly and the Karoly Riders, and, of course, performing elephants. MEATBALLS ON MAIN STREET ...

will offer local deliveries to locations within the Sylva and Dillsboro city limits beginning Monday, Oct. 16. The service will be available Monday-Thursday from noon until 3 p.m. Meatballs has a varied menu featuring pizza, subs, calzones, salads, pasta, gourmet burgers, steaks and seafood.


ARSENAL ARTIFACTS ...

owned by Howard and Chrissy Alligood, will hold an open house Saturday, Oct. 14, from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. featuring artists Bob Graham and Will Leary and local writer Carrie Holthouser. See the ad for more details.


SYLVA'S CHRISTMAS PARADE ...

will be Tuesday, Nov. 28, at 7 p.m. The Hospice Tree will be lit at 6 p.m. at the courthouse steps. The tree lighting will be followed by caroling on the steps of First Baptist Church until the parade arrives. The theme of this year's parade is "A Storybook Christmas." Any group wishing to participate must sign an application form. Applications are available from Betty Foxx at Sylva Insurance. For information, call Foxx at 586-2512. Santa Claus will be at Massie Furniture Store four Fridays in December (Dec. 1, 8, 15 and 22) beginning at 4 p.m.

SCOTTS CREEK SCHOOL ...

will hold its annual Fall Festival Friday, Oct. 13, from 5 to 9 p.m. The event will include an Indian fry bread supper from 5 to 7 p.m. Activities will include raffles, bingo, kids' games, cakewalk, flea market, country store and an auction.


UNAHWI RIDGE ...

a new residential, business and recreational community on Betty's Creek Road near Sylva, will hold open house Saturday, Oct. 14, from 1 to 5 p.m. To reach Unahwi Ridge, take U.S. 441 south toward Franklin and turn right on Betty's Creek Road (one mile past the Savannah Fire Department) and continue straight ahead past the end of the pavement. SMOKY MOUNTAIN ...

Life Underwriters Association recently held its annual elections. Chosen as officers are John Faulk, president; Bill Ansley, vice president; and Beverly Smith Bradley, secretary-treasurer.


AUTHOR FRANKLIN GOLDSMITH ...

will be at Venture Out Tuesday, Oct. 17, from 2 until 4 p.m. to sign copies of his new book, "The Best Hikes of the Pisgah National Forest."


A FALL YARD SALE ...

sponsored by the Student Support program at Southwestern Community College will be held from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28, in the college's Allied Health Building parking lot. If it rains, the event will be moved to Saturday, Nov. 4. Vendor spaces, including tables while they last, are $15. Both groups and individuals are invited to sell. Special activities will include the Twister game and a cakewalk. Each vendor will be able to keep all sale money. The proceeds from purchasing a vendor spot will go toward student scholarships. If you would like to reserve a vendor space or if you have any questions, contact the Student Support Services at 586-4091.
