THE WHISPERING WILLOW is featured this week in our Business Spotlight. The Dillsboro Court store specializes in holistic nutrition and community wellness. See their ad on the back page of this section for more information. HERALD FOOTBALL CONTEST scorer Art Altman has a few requests for those who enter the popular competition. Write legibly and use clear abbreviations. "Mississippi" listed as an answer to a game won by "Mississppi State" will be wrong every time. Also, please use pencil or dark ink rather than red ink since Art marks the entries with a red pen. And finally, when using a hand-written entry blank rather than the one from the paper, please arrange your picks in two columns as they are on the official entry blank.
DAVE MOCCIA is now a broker at First Choice Real Estate in Dillsboro. Through the years he has worked as a whitewater canoe instructor, accounting manager, construction crew chief and owner/builder. He has 20-plus years in the customer service industry and is a board member of the Little Tennessee Watershed Association. With First Choice, Moccia will be in full-time sales with a special interest in land sales. He is married and has two children. SCOTT AND KEVIN Stanberry of Stanberry Insurance Agency have purchased Staib Insurance Agency in Waynesville. They plan to change Staib's name to Stanberry, giving the agency offices in Sylva and Waynesville. TO ENCOURAGE children's participation in this year's Smoky Streak, WestCare will award a $500 grant to the elementary school PE program with the most student walkers crossing the finish line. IT'S TIME FOR Granny's chicken and dumplings at the Rockdale Community Center. The annual event raises money for the Barkers Creek Cemetery fund. Stop by Friday, Oct. 10, for chicken and dumplings, three vegetables, dessert and drink at a cost of $6 for adults or $2.50 for children. Serving begins at 4 p.m. HAVE LUNCH with The Rockers Thursday, Oct. 16,
at Western Carolina University's Ramsey Center. The event is free to
all older adults, but seating is limited. See the ad elsewhere in this
issue for details. DON'T FORGET the Lions Club auction coming up Saturday, Oct. 11, from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. and also from 4 to 7 p.m. at Dodie's on Main Street. Donations are welcome. Call Dodie Allen at 586-3634. POTEET PARK will be closed for maintenance next week (Oct. 13-17). WE RECENTLY received the following note from Thomas
