COUNTRY MUSIC SUPERSTAR ...

Clint Black will perform in the Harrah's Cherokee Pavilion at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 11, and Thursday, Oct. 12. Black has won virtually every conceivable award, from Country Music Association Male Vocalist of the Year and CMA Album of the Year ("Common Threads") to Nashville Songwriters' Association Song of the Year ("Something That We Do") and a Grammy for Best Country Collaboration with Vocal ("Same Old Train"). He even has a star in the Hollywood "Walk of Fame." Tickets, which start at $35, are on sale now and can be purchased by calling 1-800-HARRAHS.

HOUSE OF STYLE ...

is the name of a new hair salon opened by Evon Henry, owner and stylist, and Tammy Brown, Redken specialist. The shop offers design cuts, color, oil highlighting, color correction, texturizing and waxing. The salon is located on New Dawn Lane, which is off Woody Hampton Road. now register to vote, fill out absentee applications and pi'k up Gore/Lieberman bumper stickers at the Jackson County Democratic Headquarters in Sylva. Hours of operation are 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday at the former Ramcell building on Business 23 across from O'Malley's.

A SOFTBALL ...

tournament to benefit REACH will be held Sunday, Oct. 15, at Mark Watson Park. Players can enter for $5 each. OCTOBER ...

is National Physical Therapy Month. Educational displays describing the benefits of physical therapy will be in the front lobby of Harris Regional Hospital through Saturday, Oct. 7. In connection with the monthlong celebration, a free water aerobi-s class for arthritis patients will be held Wednesday, Oct. 11, from 12:30 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. The class is open to the public.

ALIGNMENT OF SUN ...

and satellites may cause temporary picture loss for cable customers across the country through mid-October. The disturbance is caused when the sun lines up directly behind the satellites, and the dish receivers cannot read the signal correctly. Our local cable company, Mediacom, plans to remind customers of the sun outages via messages on local channels and let them know there is no need to call repair service numbers. Most outages will occur between 2 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. and will affect different satellite channels at various times, a company spokesman said.

A BENEFIT ...
