DILLSBORO'S ANTIQUES FAIR this Saturday will include a display of antique tractors in the parking lot behind Enloe Market Place on Front Street. Oexning Silversmiths will offer free silver restoration estimates, and there will be music all day from local musicians including the Deitz Family, Cope Creek Gang and Josh Bulla. Great food will be available from Dillsboro's fine restaurants as well as from street vendors offering mouth-watering treats like chicken pitas, Polish sausages, hot dogs, corn dogs, barbecue and baked goods. Dillsboro's first-ever fall antiques fair is shaping up to be a fun and entertaining event. Don't miss it! IN A PICTURE published Sept. 18 of the Smoky Mountain High School homecoming court, Brittany Elders's first name was spelled incorrectly. We regret the error. SYLVA FIREFIGHTERS WILL HOLD their annual Open House this Saturday, Oct. 4, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the fire station. Town firefighters sponsor the event each year in conjunction with National Fire Prevention Week in an effort to educate the community about fire prevention and safety. Stop by the firehouse, meet Smokey Bear and Sparky the Fire Dog and sample refreshments including RC cola and candy. There will be balloons and children's activities, and drawings for door prizes will be held throughout the event. FIRST CITIZENS BANK will hold Customer Appreciation Day at its Sylva branch on Main Street Friday, Oct. 3. Refreshments, including fresh apple cake, cookies and apples, will be served all day. A drawing for several prizes from local businesses and restaurants will be held at 6 p.m. Artwork from local kindergarten classes will be on display, and a savings bond will be awarded to a student from each school. The theme for the day is "Harvest Celebration - Celebrating Our Customers." A BENEFIT barbecue dinner for Vinnie Procassini will be held Saturday during Dillsboro's antiques fair from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. Procassini is in need of a kidney transplant. A CONSIGNMENT sale featuring children's clothing and toys will be held Friday (3 p.m. until 8 p.m.) and Saturday (7 a.m. until 1 p.m.), Oct. 24 and 25, at the old Ashley Co. on Harold Street near McDonalds. Everyone is welcome to participate as a seller. Turn those outgrown and unused items into extra spending money. You do not have to bring items in order to shop at the sale. To register as a seller, call Melissa Isley (293-7114) or Vicki Todd (631-0582). DON'T FORGET the Lions Club auction coming up Saturday, Oct. 11, from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. and also from 4 to 7 p.m. at Dodie's on Main Street. Donations are welcome. Call Dodie Allen at 586-3634. WHO ISN'T TIRED of wading through a large number of e-mails to get those that you really want, or going through all kinds of hoops to eliminate those undesired ones? The Federal Trade Commission wants copies of your unwanted e-mails. To report any unwanted e-mails you receive, simply forward the messages to uce@ftc.gov. Make sure to include the header information in the e-mail. According to the Better Business Bureau of Asheville/Western North Carolina, the FTC intends to take action.
