FLASHBAX...
featuring vintage and retro clothing, will hold its grand opening this Saturday, Sept. 22, at 230 Asheville Highway across from the Sylva BP station. Owner Alyssa Bauman, who says she "loves animals," will donate 10 percent of Saturday's proceeds to ARF. Flashbax will offer student and group discounts, as well as clothing rentals. Bauman also will use her store to display and sell work by local artists and plans a sitting area where people can browse through fashion magazines to help re-create outfits they like. "I love unique, vintage clothes and the fact that they allow the wearer to be so expressive," said Bauman. "Clothing has always been my creative outlet." She opened the store, she said, to "create a fun place to shop with fun clothes to wear." A 1995 Western Carolina University graduate, Bauman lives in Whittier with her dog, Eddy.
