Queen Queen

GREG QUEEN....

son of Clemmey and Carley Queen of Cullowhee, and his wife, Angela, will serve as volunteer coordinators in West Africa through the Southern Baptist International Mission Board. The Queens will facilitate short-term volunteers who come to minister among the Sereer-Falor people. The Queens live in Wake Forest and have one child, Meredith, age 4.


SYLVA'S POTEET PARK...

will be closed Monday, Sept. 16, through Thursday, Sept. 19, for maintenance.

Webb Queen

CRYSTAL WEBB...

of Franklin, a Southwestern Community College student and the granddaughter of Evelyn Austin of Sylva, was recently named to the National Dean's List and will compete for a $1,000 scholarship. She is the daughter of Linda Mattress of Franklin and the late Robert Webb.

TONYA WILSON...

a member of Smoky Mountain High's 1991 state 3-A volleyball champions and a Western Carolina University graduate, is now a program coordinator with Mountain Microenterprise Fund. MMF, which provides business training, loans and technical assistance to small businesses in WNC, will hold an information session in Sylva on Monday, Sept. 16, with a seven-week course set to start here in October. MOUNTAIN...

Discovery Charter School is seeking a new member for its board of directors. The nine-member board is accepting resumes and letters of interest from interested parents, business people and community members to fill a vacancy, which will open Oct 1.

MDCS is a public, state-funded charter school serving Swain, Jackson and Graham counties and the Qualla Boundary. The school operates independently from local school districts and is governed by its own board. The new school opened its doors Aug. 14 and is located on Hughes Branch Road next to Ingles in Bryson City.

CHEROKEE KOA...

recently received a Gold Rating on its outstanding facility and operation from Kampgrounds of America Inc. of Billings, Mont. To achieve the rating, the local campground had to score high in all areas and surpass the already first-rate standards of the KOA Quality Assurance program.
