OUR ANNUAL FOOTBALL CONTEST begins this week. All the details plus an entry blank can be found on page 3C. Read the ads placed by participating merchants, guess the victors in weekend football games, send us your entry by Friday, and you'll have a shot at wining $50 in cash. GREENE BROS. of Sylva is featured in this week's Business Spotlight. Serving Jackson County since 1945, Green Bros. includes well drilling, and pump sales and service. Owners B.T. and Audrey Greene and their family have lived in Sylva since 1970; the business was started in Canton by Boyce and Raymond Greene. For more information, see the ad on the last page of this section. JACKSON COUNTY RELAY For Life will have an organizational meeting next Tuesday, Sept. 16, at United Community Bank at 6 p.m. SMOKY MOUNTAIN Gas Log & Propane will observe Customer Appreciation Day this Saturday, Sept. 13. The event will feature the Johnny Webb Band featuring Mickey Wilkes and Skip Almond. Stop by for free hot dogs and drinks and to see their new displays. As a special bonus, the company is offering a Saturday-only 10 percent discount on in-store merchandise. SMOKY MOUNTAIN HIGH'S Health Occupations of America club members will hold a car wash Saturday, Sept. 13, at Macon Bank. It will begin at 9 a.m. and last until 3 p.m., with money raised used to fund state competition and volunteer projects. INFORMATION under a photo in last week's newspaper should have read that Dr. Owl Smith donated a van to Skyland Care. It inadvertently identified her as "Al" Smith. We apologize for the error. LOCAL RESIDENTS Mickey Bennett and Rebeca Fernandez recently earned certificates from Sage Technical School of Brevard for completing the school's Tractor-Trailer Driver program. In addition, both received perfect attendance and safe and smart drivers' training awards. LYNN FOX and CLEARINE FRANKS are the new owners of Hometown Carolina Realty, formerly Carolina Realty, located at 1143 W. Main Street in Sylva. Agents at Hometown Carolina Realty are Jim and Susan Seals, Bruce Williams, Joan Stearns, Teresa Poor and Robin Nations. All are broker associates. Franks will be broker-in-charge at the Sylva office. Fox and Franks also own Hometown Realty in Franklin, where Fox is broker-in-charge, located at 16 W. Palmer Street, and will continue to operate that office as well, along with agents Ron Norton and Robert Brinson, Broker Associates, and Holly Vanhook, secretary. The owners and all agents at both the Sylva and Franklin offices are very excited about this move, as it will allow agents to better serve customers in both Macon and Jackson counties. You can reach Hometown Carolina Realty in Sylva at 586-8939.
Merle Norman Cosmetics in East Sylva Shopping Center held a ribbon cutting Friday (Sept. 5). Jackson County Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors helped owner Tara Barnes (center, with scissors) celebrate the opening of her store. |
