GRAEME MCGUFFICKE ...

Edward Jones investment representative in Sylva, has accepted a limited partnership offering in The Jones Financial Co., the holding company for the St. Louis-based financial services firm. Edward Jones currently employs 20,000. Under the current partnership offering, some 2,000 associates received initial limited partnership offerings. "I am honored to be offered this limited partnership. It's a privilege to become part owner of a firm that is so well-known and well-respected throughout the financial services industry," McGufficke said.

The local Edward Jones office will host a long-term care program at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 3. The live satellite broadcast will feature a panel of experts who will discuss four key issues in long-term planning. For more information or to reserve your seat, call McGufficke at 586-2292.

a local advertising agency, recently received six national marketing awards. "Although winning awards on a national level is great, it just reinforces to us that we are accomplishing our number one goal - quality," said Randy Lucas, Creative Images president. Three of the awards were Gold Awards, the highest recognition possible.


GIFTS OF THE HEART ...

located on Main Street in Sylva, has new hours. The store is now open Mondays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. and Tuesday-Friday from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m


IN ZONE TANNING ...

in East Sylva Shopping Center is now owned by Mike and Pat Sluder. Pat, a Jackson County native, has two children, Nikki and Derrick Cunningham. Mike is a Haywood County native who has lived most of his life in Jackson County. For more information, see their ad in this issue or call 586-9465.


JACKSON COUNTY ...

Democratic Headquarters will hold open house Saturday, Sept. 9, between noon and 3 p.m. in the old Ramcell building across U.S. 23 Business from O'Malley's. Hot dogs will be 10 cents including drinks, and the event will feature live entertainment.


GOLDEN CHINA ...

restaurant will hold a Moon Festival Tuesday, Sept. 12. Make reservations for the special event by calling 586-9079 or by stopping by Golden China at 744 E. Main Street in Sylva.


CABOOSES ...

are now available for rental during Great Smoky Mountains Railroad excursions. You can host your own special occasion in one of the refurbished cabooses. Each is heated, has a private lavatory and can accommodate up to 15 people. The railroad has several cabooses, each painted the distinctive colors of its original owners. Railroad aficionados will recognize lines such as the Rio Grande & Western, Chesapeake & Ohio and the Santa Fe. Originally, the caboose was the home of the conductor and rear brakemen, and the railroad crew usually dined together in the small space. Private rental fees begin at $280. ALMOND TWIRLERS ...

will host Western square dances at 8 p.m. at the old Whittier School Thursdays, Sept. 14 and 21. Marty Northrup will call and Carol Pound will lead line dances. The Sept. 21 dance will be preceded by the annual club meeting and election of officers. On Thursday, Sept. 28, the group will join "Circle 8" in a dance at Woodland Hills Baptist Church in Weaverville with callers Mike Sikorsky and Gary Monday.
