THE SYLVA HERALD'S...

popular Football Contest will begin next week. The stakes have risen this year ­ each week's winner will receive $45. The contest lasts 10 weeks. Entries must be received at The Herald's Main Street office by 5 p.m. each Friday. And don't forget to thank the sponsoring businesses who make the contest possible!


SMOKY MOUNTAIN HIGH'S...

marching band is selling advertising space through magnetic signs attached to their buses when they travel outside Jackson County. Local businesses may purchase one of the signs to advertise their business while supporting the band by calling Nancy Mauldin at 293-7436.


THE SMHS CLASS OF 1996...

will hold its five-year reunion Saturday, Oct. 6. A covered-dish meal is planned for 1 p.m. at the East LaPorte River Access Park. For more information, call Brandi Young at 293-5131 or Lorraine Smith at (919) 465-9514.


ALMOND TWIRLERS...

will host regular dances Thursday, Sept. 13, and Thursday, Sept. 27, at 8 p.m. at the old Whittier School. Caller will be Marty Northrup. For information, call 497-2490


PAULA BUCHANAN...

of Sylva was recently recognized as one of the Top Tupperware Managers in the U.S. during the company's annual Jubilee Convention recently held in Philadelphia. Buchanan began her career with Tupperware as a consultant in 1999 with Sky High Sales, an authorized Tupperware distributorship located in Candler. As a manager, she assists and motivates 40 independent Tupperware consultants.


ALLIANCE BIBLE CHURCH...

has closed on land on which they will construct a church building. The land, which is at the corner of Yellowbird Branch and North River Road, is near both the Dillsboro and Sylva town lines. The congregation was able to purchase the land with cash, and remains debt-free. The Alliance Bible Church is a "daughter church" of the First Alliance Church in Franklin.

Currently Alliance Bible Church meets at 2851 Highway 441 South. Worship services are held Sundays at 11 a.m., and Sunday school for all ages meets at 10 a.m. Wednesday evening Bible study and prayer meeting is held at 7 p.m. Children's ministries are available at all services.

Alliance Bible Church is a Christian and Missionary Alliance church. There are more than 17,000 churches worldwide that are part of the Alliance family’ in 61 countries. For more than 113 years, the mission of the Alliance church has been to reach unreached and responsive people groups for Christ. Currently, Christian and Missionary Alliance missionaries serve in 49 countries.
