SESQUICENTENNIAL T-SHIRTS ...

SESQUICENTENNIAL LOGO are now on sale at two downtown locations. Jackson's General Store and Blackrock Outdoor Co., have both volunteered to sell the off-white, all-cotton commemorative shirts. Proceeds from T-shirt sales will be used to help fund the countywide celebration of Jackson County's 150th birthday. Cost of the shirts, which feature the full-color sesquicentennial logo, is $10. Main events during the county celebration will be a Heritage Parade on Sunday, Oct. 7, featuring horses and horse-drawn vehicles, and the downtown Sesquicentennial Celebration, an all-day street festival planned for Saturday, Oct. 20.

Elders

of Sylva has joined Carolina Community Bank as vice president and manager of the bank's Sylva location. Elders, who has been in the banking business for more than 30 years, has worked for both First Union and First Charter banks. A lifelong resident of Jackson County, Elders is a past president of the Sylva Women's Club. She and her husband, Charles, have one son and two grandchildren.

KINDERMUSIK ...

of Cullowhee offers music classes for young children from birth to 7 years of age. New classes will begin Sept. 11. Kindermusik classes are based on the latest brain development research. Parents who register their children by Saturday, Aug. 18, can save $5. For information, call Lori Richards at 293-5600.


SYLVA-WEBSTER'S ...

Class of 1981 is planning its 20th reunion Saturday, Sept. 29, at Maggie Valley Country Club. Anyone who needs more details or has information on class members is asked to call Beverly Smith Bradley at 631-0579.


A WEIGH DOWN ...

Workshop will hold a free orientation program Thursday, Aug. 16, at the Sylva Church of Christ in the fellowship hall. The class officially begins Thursday, Aug. 30, and lasts for 12 weeks. A video will be shown at the orientation to allow participants to determine if they want to pay the fee to continue in the program. With the Weigh Down program, participants eat their favorite foods and do not count calories. It is a non-denominational, spiritually-centered weight loss program.
