THE GREENHOUSE...and DJ DokTari will present Diverse Earth, a celebration of a different culture, the first Friday of each month. This month's installment (Aug. 2) will be an East Indian sensory experience with food specials of Indian-inspired cuisine. The audio menu will feature hindi-hop, bhangra breakbeat and progressive Indian music. Belly dancing is encouraged. The Greenhouse, formerly Alan's on Main, is located next to The Sylva Herald and offers dinner from 5 to 10 p.m. and DJ music from 8:30 p.m. until 2 a.m.

RAY'S FABRIC SHOP...will reopen Tuesday, Aug. 6, at a new location (across from their old location) on Sage Brush Trail, the second drive past the State Employees' Credit Union off Webster Road. The store will be open on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.
PRESIDENT RANDY CABE...of the Jackson County Democratic Men's Club encourages all Democrat men to join the club.
BLUEGRASS FANS...will not want to miss the Cherokee Bluegrass Festival set for Thursday through Saturday, Aug. 15-17, at Happy Holiday Campground on U.S. 19 near Cherokee. Thursday's show features the legendary Charlie Waller and the Country Gentlemen, Ralph Stanley and Rhonda Vincent. Taking the stage Friday will be the Osborne Brothers and Mac Wiseman. Saturday's lineup will feature Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder and Del McCoury. The show will go on rain or shine; no alcoholic beverages are allowed in the concert area. Daily tickets are $30 and a three-day ticket is $80. Children ages 6-13 are half price, and children under 6 are admitted free with their parents. For information, call 497-7250.
ALMOND TWIRLERSwill host Western square dancing at the old Whittier School auditorium in Whittier at 8 p.m. on three Thursdays - Aug. 8, 15 and 22 - this month. For more information call 497-2490.
