WRGC RADIO NEWS DIRECTOR Shaun Moss was honored Monday, July 14, in Wrightsville Beach by the N.C. Association of Broadcasters for excellence in local news promotion. WRGC is one of only a handful of radio stations honored during this year's "Best of the Best" Awards. "Our news team is committed to providing the latest up-to-date local, regional and state information for Jackson County," Moss said.
WEBSTER BAPTIST CHURCH will hold a yard sale Friday, July 25, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday, July 26, from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. The event will feature one large tent plus specialty booths, and concessions will be available. Proceeds will be used to pay off the property purchase. SYLVA'S CAR QUEST AUTO PARTS on West Main Street near the Merita
Bread Store now stocks a new line of heavy duty truck parts. See their
ad in this issue for more information. SHERRY FLOERCHINGER of Sylva is this week's winner in our "Have Dinner on Us" contest that is part of this newspaper's Great Smokies Dining Guide. Sherry won a $25 gift certificate to the Tee Pee Restaurant in Cherokee. See pages 10 and 11C in this week's edition for information on how you can enter and win. THE REV. Paul Christy, pastor of Sylva First United Methodist Church, was June 6 honored by the Western North Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church when he received the prestigious Harry Denman Award for Excellence in Evangelism. Awards are given annually to a lay person and a pastor who are doing effective evangelism in ways that are in keeping with United Methodist history and tradition. Christy, a graduate of Pfeiffer and Duke universities, has been an ordained minister since 1988. His appointments before coming to Sylva were at Providence-Cool Spring Charge and North Morganton UMC. A TELEPHONE number for Carolina Cross Connection was listed incorrectly in a recent issue. The number for the Franklin-based ministry is (828) 369-2748. NEW SCOTTS CREEK School Assistant Principal Kathryn Alverson Moses's name was misspelled in last week's paper. The Herald regrets the error. AN ENLARGED map showing both potential routes for the proposed Southern Loop is posted on the front window of The Sylva Herald's Main Street offices. CANADA SCHOOL reunion organizers would like to thank everyone who attended the recent event. Some 136 people came from near and far, with some coming all the way from Castle Rock, Wash., and there was lots of food and fun. Another reunion is being planned for next year.
