VETERANS NEWS - It is important that veterans have a DD Form 214 in their possession. So many veterans that come into the Sylva office need this form immediately. Upon the death of a veteran, the family must have this form to receive benefits. Sometimes the Register of Deeds Office can supply this form but not always. In some cases the DD Form 214 must be requisitioned from the military records center in St. Louis, and this takes considerable time. If you are a veteran and do not have a DD Form 214 in your possession, call Russ Bauer, Veterans Service officer for Jackson County at 586-7596.

Smoky Mountain Alpaca Farm recently opened its doors with the assistance of Ambassadors from the Jackson County Chamber of Commerce. The Alpaca Farm is located just off U.S. 441 near Country Road Farms and raises alpacas for breeding purposes as well as for fleece. For more information, call 586-8113.

The Holiday Inn Express celebrated held its grand opening celebration July 1, and Jackson County Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors were on hand for the ribbon cutting. Owned by Buddy and Susan Owen of Dillsboro, the Holiday Inn Express has 67 rooms as well as a conference center. For more information, call them at 631-1111.
