THE JUICE JUNKIE ...

is now open on Mill Street (across from The Pet Stop) serving fresh juices, smoothies, wraps, gourmet coffee, vegetarian sushi, baked goods, specialty teas and more. For information, call 586-1100.


SAVANNAH'S QUIK STOP ...

is the name selected through a recent contest for the new convenience store on U.S. 441 South. Jeff DeBorg of Savannah is the grand prize winner and won $100 for suggesting the name. Other winners will be selected during the store's upcoming grand opening celebration.


HERBAL HOME REMEDIES ...

will be the subject of a program set for Tuesday, July 17, at 7 p.m. at Country Road Farms. The free workshop will be taught by Vicki O'Connor of Waynesville. See Country Roads' ad for more information.


THE JACKSON COUNTY RESCUE SQUAD ...

is not selling calendars as a fund-raiser. The squad has heard from several people that someone is making calls and soliciting $25 donations to the squad in exchange for calendars. Squad members, who are grateful for all the community support they receive, want everyone to know that the calendar solicitation is not sponsored by the Rescue Squad. Their current fund-raiser offers community members the opportunity to have professional portraits made with a portion of the proceeds going to support the Rescue Squad.


A BENEFIT BARBECUE ...

will be held Saturday, July 14, at Burger Shak. Proceeds will benefit the Donald F. Ashe Memorial Scholarship Fund. The event begins at 2 p.m. and includes barbecue, baked beans, slaw, rolls and tea for $6 per plate.


BUFF CREEK BAPTIST CHURCH'S ...

Women on Missions group has made almost 100 crocheted caps for newborns at Harris Regional Hospital since May.


THE CHEROKEE ...

Summer Carnival will be at the Cherokee Ceremonial Grounds from Tuesday, July 17, through Saturday, July 22. See their ad in this issue for details.


REMAX AGENT ...

Chuck Strum recently sold the Perkins tract in Qualla for $1 million. Strum is a Year 2000 Remax Platinum Club award winner. That award is only given to less than 1 percent of Remax agents wordwide.


ALMOND TWIRLERS ...

square dance club will host a regular dance tonight (Thursday) at 8 p.m. at the old Whittier School. Marty Northrup will be the caller, and Carol Pound will lead the line dancing. For information, call 497-2490.


THE BALSAM ...

Mountains Bluegrass and Gospel Jamboree will be this Saturday, July 14, from 10 a.m. until 11 p.m. at the Community Service Center in Sylva.. There will be hot food, beverage and dessert concessions. Local performers include the Fiddling Dills Sisters, the Deitz Family, The Willing Servants, Mountain Strings Washtub and Susie Beckwith.
