TICKETS ARE STILL AVAILABLE ...for Great Smoky Mountain Railroad's annual "Day out with Thomas" event. Fans will have the opportunity to meet Thomas the Tank Engine when the beloved train pulls into the GSMR Saturday, July 27, through Sunday, Aug. 4. This year will mark Thomas's fourth appearance in Dillsboro. More than 31,000 fans flocked to Dillsboro last year to see Thomas. For ticket information, call 1-800-872-4681.
WILD HORSES PRO RODEO TOUR...will be at the Cherokee Indian Fairgrounds on U.S. 441 in Cherokee Friday and Saturday, July 12 and 13, at 8 p.m. Events will include bareback bronc riding, tie-down calf roping, steer wrestling, cowgirl's barrel racing, cowgirl's breakaway roping, team roping and wild Brahma bull riding. Admission at the gate will be $12 for adults and $8 for children. Discount coupons are available at shops, motels and restaurants in Cherokee. For more information, call the fairgrounds at 497-3028.

REGION A...Partnership for Children/Smart Start supports Early Learn and Play Groups throughout Western North Carolina. These early learning groups serve children pre-birth through age 6 and their parents. Parents and children are provided opportunities to engage in activities that support growth in all areas of development, play with other young children, meet other families, and learn how to find and use support services. The Sylva Early Learn and Play Group meets every Friday morning at 10 a.m. in St. John's Episcopal Church on Jackson Street.
