DAVID BAILEY...a senior English major at Western Carolina University, has joined The Sylva Herald's news staff as an intern. David's first byline appears in this week's sports section on a story about the new Smoky Mountain High baseball coach. A graduate of Liberty High in Colorado Springs, Colo., David worked in retail sales in Winston-Salem for four years before matriculating at WCU. His ambition is to pursue a career in journalism after graduation. |

Employees at the State Employees' Credit Union donned lizard hats last week to promote the bank's new teen "Zard" account, created for teenagers age 13-19. GOODY'S ...will hold a hot dog dinner from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m. this Friday and Saturday at their store in Jackson Plaza. All proceeds will go to the Children's Miracle Network. Have a hot dog and support a good cause.

RICK'S...Fuel Mart Citgo will hold a grand opening this Saturday from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. The new business is owned by Rick Wood and is located across from Uncle Bill's Flea Market between Sylva and Cherokee. Stop by Saturday for free hot dogs and get a look at Jeff Burton's Citgo race car.
