Culp

of Long Creek, S.C., a senior at Western Carolina University, is an intern at The Sylva Herald for the summer. An English major with a concentration in professional writing, Virginia hopes to pursue a career in publishing. While at WCU, she has been a contributing writer to the Western Carolinian and served as this year's editor for the "Nomad," WCU's literary magazine. Her other interests include archaeology and miniatures. Virginia's first Herald feature, a story about recent Smoky Mountain High School graduate Lauren Allen, appears this week on page 1C

THE 15th ANNUAL WORLD HUNGER ...

luncheon at Sylva First Baptist Church will be Friday, June 1, from 11 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. in the fellowship hall. The cost is $4, and all proceeds go to alleviate world hunger. Locally, United Christian Ministries receives 40 percent. The remaining 60 percent is divided evenly between the International Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention and the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship.


SELLERS & FISHER ...

Flowers and Gifts is planning to merge with Savannah Farms Nursery. Though the location will be different, you will still see the familiar faces of Charles Fisher, Anne Fisher and their current staff. The merger will be effective Friday, June 1. Savannah Farms is located at 5069 U.S. 441 South. The telephone number will remain 586-4047, and the nursery phone number is 631-2707. Sellers and Fisher has been in business for 33 years.

"We appreciate everyone's support throughout the years. By merging, our services will only become better," said Anne Fisher.

"We are excited to incorporate this long-established business into Savanna Farms," said Jenny Lynn Hooper.

The merged businesses will offer every floral and nursery need, including wire service, funeral designs, home arrangements, weddings, green plants, bedding plants, trees, shrubs and gardening and landscaping supplies.

AN ANDREWS HIGH ...

School and WCU graduate is looking for help in finding people from this county who now live in Michigan. Bridget Anderson is a graduate student at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, and her Ph.D. research involves studying the heritage of people who moved from the Smoky Mountains to Michigan. For example, her grandfather, Clifford Anderson from Robbinsville, lived in Detroit during the 1950s when he worked in an auto plant.
