COUNTRY LEGEND MERLE HAGGARD ...

will perform in Harrah's Cherokee Pavilion Friday, June 1, for one 8 p.m. show. With a legendary career spanning 25 years, Haggard has been winning hearts and generating number-one hits like "Today I Started Loving You Again" since 1963. Tickets for the concerts start at $35 and are on sale now at the Harrah's box office or by calling 1-800-HARRAHS (427-7247).

LOVE'S CHAPEL UNITED METHODIST ...

Church will hold a fish fry Saturday, May 26, from 3 until 7 p.m. Cost will be $5 per plate. The menu will include fish, parsley potatoes, coleslaw, baked beans, hush puppies, drink and dessert. The event will also feature gospel music.


SYLVA'S NEW CONVENIENCE PLAZA ...

on U.S. 441 South is holding a contest to choose a name for the new business. See their ad on page 3A.


CUB SCOUT DAY CAMP ...

The annual Balsam District Cub Scout Day Camp will be Monday, June 11, through Friday, June 15, at Cullowhee United Methodist Church. Activities include swimming, archery and more. Boys between the ages of 6 and 11 are eligible. Registration is $50 until May 28 and $75 after that date. To register or for more information, call Ronnie or Debbie Justice at 293-3599.


CARING CITIZENS ...

Are Cool, a group for youth age 12 to 17 that focuses on life skills and service to the community, will meet Thursday, May 31, at the Family Resource Center to plan summer projects. Call Lindley Myers at 586-2845 for additional information.


ZION HILL BAPTIST ...

Church members thank everyone who supported their fund-raiser for the new parking lot last Saturday. Donations can still be taken by contacting Gloria Rogers at 631-0448, Ed Jones at 586-6347 or James Buchanan at 586-8146.


WHITTIER'S ...

first-ever Daisy Daze Festival will be this Saturday, May 26. The event will include local artists and crafters lining Main Street from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Local authors will sign copies of their books, and games will be available for the children. The event is a fund-raiser for the Whittier Historical Center and New Century Scholars.
