COUNTRY ROAD FARMS and Country Roads' Tack and Western....are featured in our Business Spotlight this week. Both offer a variety of Mother's Day gift ideas and specials.
SMOKY MOUNTAIN HIGH....will present its annual musical this Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at Hoey Auditorium on the Western Carolina University campus. This year's play, "No, No, Nanette," revolves around Jimmy Smith, a wealthy Bible publisher who travels around the country helping ladies in need. Senior Michael Ayers plays Smith, with other featured roles to be performed by Rachel Myers, Julie Fox and Maleah Pusz. Tickets are $5 for students, faculty and senior citizens and $7 for adults. TRASH AND RECYCLABLES ...for residents of Sylva will be picked up by GDS on the same days Country Collections was collecting trash. Materials for pickup should be placed at the curb no later than 7 a.m., said Sylva Manager Richard McHargue.
BESSIE MAY & CO. ...will offer a lampwork bead-making demonstration and trunk show by Nancy Punley this Saturday, May 10, from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. Lampwork beads are made by melting glass rods with a torch. Intricate designs are created by layering the glass, said Bessie May owner Elizabeth Dux.
WEDNESDAY BOXED LUNCH...is here again. Those wanted to help out the Community Table and get a great meal should place orders no later than Monday, May 12. For $5 you have a choice this month of Barbecue on an onion roll with slaw, turkey tetrazini or hummus with pita crisp. Each lunch is served with dessert and a drink. STORYTIME ...at City Lights this Saturday, May 10, will feature the adventures of Flat Stanley, from the popular book series by Jeff Brown. For more information, call the book store at 586-9499.
CULLOWHEE BAPTIST ...children's committee sent a thank you to all who helped with their recent quilt-raffle fund-raiser. Livingston's Photo and the Jackson County Chamber of Commerce displayed the quilts. More than $900 was raised, and the winners were Fred Harris and Beth Baxley.
REG MOODY SR....also sent a thank you to the many people who nominated him for the N.C. Hospital Association Trustee of the Year Award.
BRITTANY HILTON ...a senior at Smoky Mountain High School, thanks everyone who helped with her fashion show that raised funds for the Smoky Mountain Lady Mustang volleyball team.
FIRST CITIZENS BANK....of Sylva will celebrate Teller Appreciation Week May 12-16. The bank will hold activities each day to salute its tellers. Among the creative ways the branch will honor them include serving breakfast and washing their vehicles. "We're extremely proud of our tellers and the exceptional service they provide," said financial services officer Jan Revis. "Teller appreciation is a way for First Citizens to say thank you for all they do."
