DURON PAINT ...
donated all the paint necessary for the recent restoration of The Jarrett House, a Dillsboro landmark. David Kelly, owner of Smoky Mountain Paint Center, the Sylva Duron dealer, said the company has a historical preservation program and often provides paint to buildings of historical significance. The Jarrett House was completely repainted in its orignial colors of white and country blue. The recent refurbishing marks the first time the whole building has all been painted at once in 27 years, Kelly said. Every surface, including the roof, received new paint, compliments of Duron, Kelly said. Labor for the project was provided by Kelly Painting.

set a new record for lending for the first quarter this year with $52.5 million in new loan production. This performance exeeded that of the first quarter in 2000 by 16 percent. Though Macon is traditionally a mortgage lender, 47 percent of loans for the first three months this year went for commercial, business and consumer purposes.

HELP "PROTECT ...
Wild Dolphins" by purchasing a special license plate recently approved by the N.C. General Assembly. The $30 plates feature a design of leaping dolphins in three colors with the words "Protect Wild Dolphins." Revenues from sale of the plates will go to the Friends of the Museum, a non-profit group that supports education, conservation and research programs of the N.C. Maritime Museum in Beaufort.
Sale of the dolphin plates will benefit both research and environmental studies as well as educational field trips. For each $30 plate purchased, the Friends of the Maritime Museum will receive $20. To personalize a dolphin place requires an additional $20.
