A FUND ...

to purchase a whirlpool for Laci and Hannah Wike of Cullowhee has been set up at Nu-Wave Pool and Spa by Teri Browning of Shear Images. For information, call Teri at 631-1513 (Shear Images) or Judy at Nu-Wave, 631-2703. The girls need the whirlpool for therapy to help alleviate the joint pain associated with their dwarfism.


IT'S ALL ABOUT YOU ...

is a new tanning and nail salon next to Harold's Supermarket. Owner Jennifer Roy will hold a grand opening celebration this Friday, March 2, from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. Stop by for refreshments and raffles. The salon features new tanning beds and bulbs, and Jennifer is offering special package rates and memberships during her grand opening. A recent graduate of Smoky Mountain High, Roy is the daughter of Julia Queen and the granddaughter of Cecil and Julia Queen of Whittier.


THE JACKSON COUNTY GENEALOGICAL ...

Society will hold its monthly meeting Thursday, March 8, at 7 p.m. at the society office, 42 Asheville Highway, Sylva. Matthew Bumgarner, author of "Kirk's Raiders - A Notorious Band of Scoundrels and Thieves," will present the program, which is free and open to the public.


DAVID CASSIDY ...

will perform at Harrah's Cherokee Casino Pavilion on Thursday, March 8, and Friday, March 9. For ticket information, call 1-800-HARRAHS.


ALMOND TWIRLERS ...

will host a 15th anniversary dance Thursday, March 8, at 8 p.m. at the old Whittier School. Dance by Definition classes for dancers at plus level will begin tonight (Thursday) at 8 p.m. and will continue each first and third Thursdays. Marty Northrup is caller. LITTLE LEAGUE ...

registration will be from 9 a.m. until noon Saturday at Fairview Youth Complex. Make-up registration, also at Fairview, is set for 5:30-7 p.m. Monday. Tryouts will be at Fairview Saturday, March 10, at 9 a.m. Make-up tryouts will be held at Fairview on Monday, March 12, at 5:30 p.m.


THE TIME FOR A ...

Monday, March 5, Western Carolina University Women's History Month Program, "Women and War: The Healing Process," a presentation by Joan Furey, director of the Department of Veterans Affairs' Center for Women Veterans. That program will be from 4 to 6 p.m., Lipinsky Auditorium at UNC-Asheville rather than 6 to 9 p.m. as is listed on page 1C.


RED CROSS ...

will offer community CPR training Monday and Friday, March 5 and 9, from 5:30-9:30 p.m. and again on Tuesday and Thursday, March 27 and 29, also from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. The seven-hour course covers infant, child and adult rescue techniques in choking, rescue breathing and CPR. The $37 cost includes a book. Preregistration is required. Contact 586-2019 or stop by the Jackson County Red Cross office on Main Street in Sylva Monday-Friday during office hours, 9 a.m. until 1 p.m.


TIRED OF LITTERBUGS? ...

Report them via the Internet at www.dot.state.nc.us/litterbug to North Carolina's Department of Motor Vehicles. You will need to know the license number of the offending vehicle, and include the date, time and location of the littering incident.
