THE USED BOOKSTORE...

on Main Street is holding a clearance sale to make room for more books. Go by and choose from recent donations and public library discards. THE PLANNING COMMITTEE...

for a Sylva High School Class of 1957 reunion will meet Tuesday, Feb. 19, at 7 p.m. at United Community Bank (formerly Carolina Community Bank) on East Main Street in Lovesfield.


ORAHOOD BOOKKEEPING...

MICHELLE GLOVER...

of the Western North Carolina Oral History Project, headed by Professor Richard Starnes of Western Carolina University's history department, is seeking stories from local residents who remember significant events in Jackson County history. Anyone who remembers construction of any WPA projects like the courthouse steps, Webster School, WCU's Breese gym and the first Sylva swimming pool is asked to contact Michelle at 227-3959 days, 586-0728 in the evenings or through WCU's history department at 227-7243. She is also interested in first-person accounts of President Franklin Roosevelt's 1936 visit and the 1940 flood. All stories contributed will be recorded and become part of the oral history project, Glover said.


A FREE...

program on becoming a "smart taxpayer" will be available Tuesday, March 5, at both 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. at the local Edward Jones office. During the one-hour presentation, "Investing: Smart & Simple," guests will hear from Alan Skrainka, chief market strategist, on how to lower tax bills both this year and next. Skrainka will appear as part of a live, interactive broadcast via the firm's private satellite network.
