will welcome artists Nina Bagley of Sylva and Kathy Van Kleeck of Bryson City on Valentine's Day, Friday, Feb. 14, from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Both artists will be demonstrating a variety of jewelry and mixed-media techniques throughout the afternoon as well as offering some of their work for sale. A jewelry artist for over 15 years, Bagley's designs combine thought-provoking imagery with a sense of style and whimsy. Van Kleeck began designing jewelry in the mid 1980s and has been marketing her work for 12 years. Her medium is Precious Metal Clay, a new material that combines the ease and workability of clay with pure silver and gold, and Van Kleeck combines silver and gold with an eclectic mix of pearls and gemstones in a full line of unique jewelry. in the Dicks Creek/Barkers Creek area will be interrupted for about 30 minutes beginning at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 21. Approximately 600 customers along U.S. 441 west of Dillsboro to Barkers Creek will experience the interruption while Duke ties in a new section of line to complete a Department of Transportation relocation project.

to attend the first Sequoyah Symposium at Western Carolina University Friday and Saturday, April 4-5. Titled "The Southeastern Indians Then and Now," the conference will feature noted scholars Theda Perdue, Michael Green, Katherine Holland Braund and Tom Hatley. The event will include a Friday night traditional dinner in Cherokee. The conference is free and open to the public, but participants are asked to preregister. ArtsFest, WCU's summer celebration of live music and fine arts, is now accepting applications for food vendors for the two-day festival, which is scheduled for Friday and Saturday, June 20-21, on the WCU campus. Gates will open at 5 p.m. June 20 and noon on June 21, and the festival is expected to draw more than 5,000 people. More than 3,000 attended last year's inaugural celebration that featured nationally-known performers like The Manhattan Transfer and David Sanborn. Deadline for food vendor applications is March 14.
