Brothers three-ring circus, the second largest circus in the world, is coming to Western Carolina University tonight (Thursday) for two performances (4:30 and 7:30 p.m.) at the Ramsey Center. The shows will feature a wide variety of circus acts and stars, including trapeze artists, acrobats, gymnasts, circus pets, clowns, a human cannonball, motorcycle daredevils, "The X-Games Wheel of Death," and, of course, performing elephants. LEGENDARY SINGER BJ THOMAS...

will perform at Harrah's Cherokee Casino and Hotel Thursday and Friday, Feb. 13 and 14. Best known for his hit "Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head," Thomas also has a number of other hits including "Hey, Won't You Play, Another Somebody-Done-Somebody-Wrong Song" and "Two-Car Garage." Thomas, who has won five Grammy awards, has two platinum albums and 11 gold records. Shows are at 8 p.m. both nights, and tickets start at $25. MUSICIANS WANTED...

CulloWHEE! ArtsFest, Western Carolina University's summer celebration of live music and fine arts, is now accepting applications for musical entertainment acts for the second annual festival, scheduled for June 20-21. The event will offer opportunities for performing artists from a variety of musical genres, including jazz, blues and adult contemporary music. Last year's inaugural festival featured such performers as The Manhattan Transfer, David Sanborn, Joe Sample and Bio Ritmo and attracted more than 3,000 people. Application are due Feb. 21.

owner Tom Stovall recently hosted a meeting of the Jackson County Home Builders Association. Stovall credited the success of his business to "loyal customers and dedication to customer service" and said he's "delighted" with the growth of the builders' association.


AT SOUL INFUSION...

Michael Reno Harrell and Phyllis Tannerfrye will perform at 9 p.m. Friday, Feb. 7. Harrell is the winner of the 2002 Merlefest Chris Austin songwriter competition in the gospel category. His songs are in regular rotation on WNCW and Americana stations around the country. Tannerfrye is the winner of the 2001 song competition at the Suwannee Springfest March in Live Oak, Fla., and was a featured songwriter last October for the Charlotte Folk Society. Also, Asheville folk songwriter Julie Loyd will perform Saturday, Feb. 8, at 9 p.m. Both events are free and open to all ages.
