TAX HELP...
is available at the Golden Age Senior Center through the AARP tax aide program on Fridays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. beginning Friday, Feb. 8, and continuing through April 12. Volunteers will be available to help individuals file basic tax returns. Individuals seeking help should bring their last year's returns and all W-2 forms, interest income, and other pertinent information. The tax help program is opened to the public and is free. Walk-ins are OK, but appointments may be scheduled by calling 293-9795 or 586-4944 on Fridays between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.

of St. Augustine, Fla., grandson of Mary Blanton of Sylva, graduated Dec. 15 from the University of Arizona. Quinn earned bachelor's degrees in languages, archaeology and computer science and was recognized with the Scholastic Academic Achievement Award and with a national award in computer science. Quinn, the son of Dr. Sheila Blanton King of St. Augustine, plans to pursue a master's in computer science at Arizona.

of Transportation has unveiled a new, more customer-friendly web site, according to a DOT spokesman. The address in www.dot.org. The new site provides a way for citizens to access online services and information and features links to the department's units as well as links to hot topics and the most visited sites. The new web site can also be accessed via DOT's former web site, www.dot.state.nc.us.
