will sponsor a taco salad dinner/silent auction Tuesday, Aug. 29, from 4 until 7 p.m. The event was planned in conjunction with the school open house from 5 to 7 p.m. that same evening. Dinner tickets are $4 and are available from PTO members or at Dunnahoe-Shaw Ford and Wayah Insurance. The menu will include taco salad, drink and dessert. A silent auction will be in the school lobby during the dinner. Those who have items to donate are asked to call Susan Karcher at 631-1212.

Mountains Railroad is again sponsoring a photo contest for railroad passengers and area visitors. Cash prizes will be awarded to the top five photos, with $200 going to the first-place winner. The next 95 winners will receive a $10 gift certificate to any GMSR gift store. Contestants may enter up to three photos or slides. Judges will look for inspiring images of scenery, people or railroading, a spokesman said. Entry deadline is Oct. 31, and photos may be mailed or delivered to Photo Contest 2000, Great Smoky Mountains Railroad, P.O. Box 397, Dillsboro, N.C. 28725. For more information, call 1-800-872-4681.

Class of 1965 will hold its 35th reunion Saturday, Oct. 7, at the Holiday Inn in Cherokee. Registration will begin at 6 p.m. with dinner at 7 p.m. to be followed by entertainment and socializing. Cost is $25 per person. All who were ever members of the class, even in elementary school, are invited - not just those who graduated, said a reunion spokesman.
