JUST MONKEYING AROUND . . .
Almost a week after it was first sighted, a monkey was captured July 6 at McCarter's Riding Stables in Great Smoky Mountains National Park near Gatlinburg. The animal had eluded authorities since July 1. Park wildlife biologists contacted the University of Tennessee Clinic of Veterinary School and the monkey was transferred to UT on July 7 to determine its species and general health. Park officials do not know how the monkey arrived in the park and are working with UT to determine where the monkey will be placed. The Tennessee Wildlife Commission has been contacted. If anyone has information about the monkey or its owners, contact the GSMNP at (865) 436-1230.
