THE DR. D.D. HOOPER HOUSE...

on Main Street has been named to the National Register of Historic Places by the U.S. Department of the Interior upon a nomination by the N.C. Department of Cultural Resources, Division of Archives and History. The National Register is a list of properties "significant in American history, architecture, archaeology and culture - a comprehensive index of the significant physical evidence of our national patrimony," the announcement reads.

CRAFTERS AND QUILTERS...

and his wife, Elizabeth, on the birth of their son, Jack, born May 19 at UNC Hospitals. He weighed 9 pounds, 3 ounces, and is the couplešs fourth child.

System released its first-ever, state-by-state analysis of registration compliance data. North Carolina's rate of compliance is 84 percent. On average, the rankings show that nearly one out of five young men in the United States turning 20 this year will fail to register.

Across seven counties in Western North Carolina, including here in Sylva, Community Bank and Trust has opened its doors as First Charter.
