The Student Support Services...

program at Southwestern Community College will host its spring yard sale - the ŒFlea Market Festival' - Saturday, April 8, in the Allied Health Building parking lot on the Sylva campus. In case of rain, the event will be moved to the Services Building Gymnasium. The flea market will feature a traditional flea market setting along with assorted games, a concession stand, traditional mountain dance lessons and traditional mountain music as well as a step show by the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity from Western Carolina University. All proceeds raised by the festival will go toward Student Support Services scholarships and other SCC student organizations. Members of the Class...

of 1945 at Sylva High School will hold a planning meeting for their 55th reunion. The meeting will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, April 10, at the home of Bud and Velma Plemmons at 252 Falls Circle, Sylva.


The Friends of Hunter...

Library at Western Carolina University will hold a book sale Saturday through Monday, April 8-10, in the Auxiliary Gym in the Ramsey Center. Thousands of books will be available, with proceeds going to support the library.


The American Red Cross...

will hold a blood drive today (Thursday) from 2-6 p.m. at the office on Sylva's Main Street. Stop by and give the gift of life.


Toad in the Hole...

cordially invites everyone to a grand opening celebration to mark the store's relocation to Cashiers. The event will be held Sunday, April 16, from 2-6 p.m. across the street and up the hill from the Market Basket. Refreshments and door prizes will be offered those who attend. WestCare Health System...

is observing National Medical Laboratory Week. The 2000 theme, "Guiding Health Care into the New Millennium," reminds everyone of the profound impact the medical laboratory has on health care. When you see a laboratory staffers, be sure and wish them "A Happy Lab Week."


Franklin's own Watauga...

Creek will be featured this Sunday, April 9, on Home and Garden Television. The western home-furnishing store will appear on the weekly "The Furniture Show" at 3:30 p.m. The episode will spotlight many of Watauga Creek's original hand-crafted pieces, including hide and hair sofa and recliners, boot lamps and saddle barstools. The show also explores the creation process that begins with owner Gail Moyer's unique designs.


Last Minute Productions...

the student-run entertainment and activity programming organization at Western Carolina University, is sponsoring an off-campus concert by popular Southern alternative rock band Cravin' Melon Thursday, April 13. Cravin' Melon will return to Sylva for a concert at Crossroads beginning at 9:30 p.m. Advance tickets are $6 for Western students with valid identification, $9 for all others. All tickets purchased at the door will be $9. The band received the South Carolina Musical Group of the Year Award in 1998. Previous recipients of the honor include James Brown and Hootie and the Blowfish. "The fact that our music is being recognized now is due to the fact that we've been touring and playing to more and more people and making friends," says guitarist Jimbo Chapman.
