LIBERTY BAPTIST CHURCH . . .

will hold a healthy cook-off and fair for prevention and care of diabetes Saturday, Jan. 27, from 10 a.m. until noon. The informational event will help inform the community about the positive effects of healthy eating in managing diabetes, a spokesman said.


THE DEADLINE FOR . . .

inclusion in the second volume of the Jackson County heritage book has been extended until March 1 so that more families may be included. The Heritage Book Committee invites the submission of family articles, photographs and memorial tribute pages. Mail submissions to Heritage Book, P.O. Box 2108, Cullowhee, N.C. 28723. THE BLUE RIDGE PARKWAY . . .

has moved its headquarters to its new administrative facility on the parkway at milepost 384. Telephone numbers remain the same, and the parkway's new mailing address is Blue Ridge Parkway, 199 Hemphill Knob Road, Asheville, N.C. 28803.


KINDERMUSIK

Kindermusik music classes for children will begin Tuesday, Feb. 1, at Cullowhee Baptist Church. For information, call Lori Richards at 293-9230.


JACKSON COUNTY

Schools will hold an orientation session for substitute teachers Thursday, Jan. 27, at the school system's administrative offices on Hospital Road. Attendance is a prerequisite to being place don the substitute list for Jackson County Schools.


KEEP MERCURY OUT OF THE LANDFILL

Avoid placing light bulbs and all types of fluorescent tubes in with your trash. They contain mercury, a toxic heavy metal, and should be recycled. Other items that contain mercury and should not be placed in the landfill include fluorescent lighting ballasts, and electronic equipment such as computer monitors, CRT screens, processors, keyboards and peripherals.


COMING TO CROSSROADS

Brevard-based mountain rock group, Jupiter Coyote Next Wednesday, Jan. 26, will be Jupiter Coyote, a Brevard-based group playing their own brand of original mountain rock. Doors open at 8:30 p.m. for the 9:30 p.m. show. Tickets are $8. Don't miss Jupiter Coyote, one of the hardest-working bands touring the area.
