Brad Moses, assistant vice president at First Union Bank in Sylva, congratulates third-grade teacher Marsha Cameron of Cullowhee Valley School on her selection as Jackson County's Teacher of the Year. Cameron received a hand-blown glass apple, a plaque and a $1,000 grant to be used for her school from First Union Bank, which sponsors the award. Selected by a panel of local teachers and education consultants, Cameron said she focuses attention on each individual child and said every student is like a box of Cracker Jack - "there's a prize inside each one - you just have to keep looking until you find it." Cameron, a 30-year education veteran, will represent Jackson County in regional competition.
