"Each teddy bear gets a special little love pat when they're finished," Elly Davey said of her bears created from recycled sweaters. Davey and other crafters will offer a variety of gifts at Western Carolina University's annual Christmas Bazaar and Gift Show. The bazaar is scheduled 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 30, and Wednesday, Dec. 1.

Among the gift selections of handmade pottery, glass, Christmas ornaments and decorations, toys, crafts and artwork at Western Carolina University's annual Christmas Bazaar and Gift Show Nov. 30 and Dec. 1 will be Elly Davey's teddies bears crafted from reycled sweaters.

"About six years ago when I started making them, I had the idea to do gingerbread men, but they didn't look right, so they evolved into teddy bears," said this Cullowhee artist.

She purchases sweaters from the Harris Regional Hospital Auxiliary Thrift Shop to make the gifts affordable for children.

"The teddy bears are just $5, and many children buy them as gifts for their friends or younger brothers and sisters," she said.
