Dondrell Whitmore scored 20 points and pulled down 16 rebounds leading Western Carolina to a 92-83 win over Division II Queens before 1,121 fans Saturday at the Ramsey Center.
At 6-2, the Catamounts have matched their victory total for all of last season and are off to their best start since the 1980-81 campaign. Their six straight victories mark the longest winning streak since 1995-96.
Jarvis Hayes added 19 points while twin brother Jonas had 17. Ricky Gandy netted 12 points.
J.R. Gamble paced the Royals with 21 points and five assists. Carlos Andrade scored 20 while Robert Kellog and Chris Benson both had 14. Kellog was his team's top rebounder with 13.
"It was a good team effort, a good coaching effort and a good team win," Coach Phil Hopkins said.
The Cats scored the game's first seven points and never fell behind although Queens managed to pull even twice.
