Casey Rogers scored 31 points for Western Carolina in Saturday's 83-81 victory over Columbia in the finals of the Ameritas Classic. Rogers was named to the all-tournament team.

Western Carolina pulled off a 74-72 upset of host Nebraska Friday in the first round of the Ameritas Classic at the Devaney Sports Center.

Coach Phil Hopkins said it was the program's biggest win since defeating Davidson in the 1996 Southern Conference Tournament finals.

The Catamounts (5-2) continued their big weekend with an 83-81 victory over Columbia in Saturday's championship game.

WCU's Jarvis Hayes, who scored 51 points in the tournament, was named the most valuable player. He was joined on the all-tournament squad by teammate Casey Rogers.

The Cornhuskers have been to post season play nine consecutive years. They had won 11 straight Ameritas Classic titles.
