Smoky Mountain completed its strong run through the second half of the Western Athletic Conference schedule by defeating Enka 2-1 in the regular season finale Oct. 25 at Carr Hooper Stadium/Babe Howell Field.

The Mustangs (18-3-2, 9-2-1) forged a tie with Enka (8-1-3) and Franklin (9-2-1) for the WAC title. Through the state tie-breaker procedure of head-to-head competition among the three teams, Enka earned the top seed from the league to the state playoffs with SM second. Franklin did not quality for the playoffs.

SM was scheduled to open the playoffs at 7 p.m. Wednesday with Trinity visiting Carr Hooper Stadium/Babe Howell Field. Results were not known at Herald press time.
