Smoky Mountain's Trent Dillard looks for running room in Friday's 28-14 loss to Erwin. Dillard led the Mustang ground game with 51 yards on 18 carries.

Ten yards proved to be the difference for Smoky Mountain in Friday's 28-14 Western Athletic Conference loss to Erwin at Carr Hooper Stadium/Babe Howell Field.

The Mustangs (1-1, 4-3) were stopped at the one yardline as the first half ended and were turned back on fourth-and-goal from the nine in the fourth quarter. Otherwise, they might have been in position to pull off their second straight upset.

Derrick Eddington carried 27 times for 132 yards and two touchdowns to pace the Warriors (2-0, 5-1). Quarterback Ronnie Boyd added 115 yards and two TDs in 13 carries. Boyd's total would have been higher if not for an intentional 23-yard loss on the game's last play.
