After coming from behind to win a pair of games earlier this season, Smoky Mountain found itself on the opposite end of a comeback Friday at Avery.
The Vikings scored a touchdown and two-point conversion with 56.7 seconds remaining to claim a 28-27 victory. Levi Harmon hit Jake Manis on a 17-yard TD pass, and Jesse Webb ran for the conversion. Avery started at its 22 with 4:51 remaining and covered the 78 yards in 13 plays. Highlights were Harmon passes of 10 yards to Sean Spradling and 20 yards to Jason Lindecamp. Another key play came when Lindecamp picked up three yards on fourth-and-one from his 42. The Mustangs (3-2) could not muster a threat after the kickoff as two sacks and two incompletions turned the ball over to the Vikings in the final seconds. Webb carried 15 times for 111 yards. Clint Manuel picked up 88 yards in 10 attempts, and Lindecamp finished with 67 yards in 15 tries. Harmon completed eight of 15 passes for 118 yards. Spradling's six receptions totaled 81 yards. Josh Carnes led the Mustang ground game with 105 yards in 14 carries. Trent Dillard netted 78 yards in 13 attempts. Justin Roper completed six of 20 passes for 120 yards. Michael Ritchie had four catches for 55 yards. |
