Whitney Watson, a 13-year-old eighth-grader at Fairview School, recently won several awards at the Universal Cheerleading Association camp held at Appalachian State. Watson was selected from 400 varsity, junior varsity and middle school cheerleaders for the lone leadership award given at the camp. She earned seven superior ribbons, a spirit stick and a superior trophy on her final evaluation. Watson was named an all-star cheerleader for the second straight year. Because of her superior performance, she was invited to perform in the Citrus Bowl pregame show in January and the Thanksgiving Day parade at Disney World. Watson said she looks forward to the cheering season and is anxious to share the many cheers and cheer dances with her Fairview squad. She is the daughter of Frank and Donna Watson of Cullowhee.
